Amanda Adomaitis is a ceramic artist based in Portland, Oregon. As an only child, Amanda spent much of her youth imagining hidden worlds, inventing creatures and making herself laugh - it’s pretty much the same now. At the root of all of her work is her fascination with the idea of the uncanny and the notion of feeling as action - how do we freeze that moment in time when we feel it all once: attraction and revulsion, entranced by something familiar and yet strange? Much of Amanda’s current work is an investigation into identity and how we interact with the world. Common sources of inspiration: viral memes centered around cute animals, the deep ocean, body dysmorphia, and many of the hallmarks of childhood - candy, nostalgia, humor, bright colors and taking the silliest things seriously.
Amanda studied at Central Saint Martins and the London College of Fashion where she received her Masters in Fashion Design. It was only in 2019 that she reignited her love for ceramics and started sculpting and she hasn’t looked back since. Amanda’s work has been shown at the Los Angeles Art Fair as well as galleries including 19 Karen Gallery (Australia), La Luz de Jesus (Los Angeles), Copro Gallery (Los Angeles), and Mortal Machine Gallery (New Orleans).
