How is each piece made?

Ceramics take time and don’t like to be rushed. I work with a variety of techniques including hand building and wheel throwing and each and every piece is sculpted completely by hand. Once a piece is made, it needs to dry slowly: depending on the scale and complexity this can take anywhere from three days to a month. Once it is dry, I hand paint most of my work with underglazes and use 3-4 coats per color. It’s a wonderful exercise in patience for a naturally impatient person like me and is quite meditative. I custom mix the vast majority of my colors for each piece. After it is painted, each piece is fired, then I hand brush glaze onto the bisqued form before it goes through it’s second firing. Only then am I able to actually see what it will look like.

What do you mean each piece is unique?

Because each piece is made entirely by hand by a person who gets bored very easily (me), no piece is every 100% like another. This means that if you buy something from me, no-one else in the world will have anything exactly like it. Ever. I don’t use molds and I don’t mass-produce anything. Even if I repeat a creature, the nature of my process means that each one is completely unique.

What if I see something I love and it has already sold?

No problem! Just get in touch and I can work with you to make a new custom piece. We can talk about what you like about the piece you saw and how we can make your version even more perfect for you.

Can I place a custom order?

Sure! I would love to hear your ideas!

Can you make me something new in a rush?

Nope! I can make it as quickly as I can, but there are several steps in ceramics that just can’t be rushed. Please allow at least 6 weeks for a custom order and always make sure to check the quoted lead times in the listings.

What is your shipping policy?

Unless listed as “Made to Order”, everything in my shop is ready to ship and will be on it’s way to you within 7 days of your order. For custom orders, please allow 6-8 weeks.
